The photos were shared on Instagram this week by Bogdan Vlase of the Indonesian Dogs Are Not Food campaign. Indonesia is a country where the dog and cat meat trade sadly continues. Dog meat is consumed by people across the archipelago, including in Medan, North Sumatra; Jakarta; Bandung, West Java; Yogyakarta; Surakarta, Central Java; Bali; and Manado, North Sulawesi.
Notodogmeat are so encouraged by the growing movement of home grown activists in those countries affected by the dog meat trade. Dozens of activists earlier this year from four animal rights organisations the AFJ, Jakarta Animal Aid Network (JAAN), Garda Satwa Indonesia (GSI) and the Bali Animal Welfare Association (BAWA) staged a rally under the banner Dogs Are Not Food in Yogyakarta calling on people to stop consuming dog meat as it was inhumane because dogs were pets, not livestock. http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2014/05/09/dogs-should-be-menu-say-animal-lovers.html
Now the cause has also been taken up by Indonesian band Shaggy Dog and there is a new range range of campaign Tee shirts by Greenlight. Also at the forefront of the campaign is renowned Indonesian film producer and actress Sophia Latjuba.
