Mayor of Seoul vows to Shut down Dog Meat Slaughterhouses

Kind hearted Seoul Mayor Pak Won soon announced his compassionate pledge to audience members at a cinema, shortly after watching an animated film called Underdog, which was about abandoned dogs. He went onto tell that audience members that over 8,000 stray dogs were abandoned in Seoul every year, and he vowed to do more.

With regard to dog eating, he said he had already shut down most of the butchers and slaughter houses in the city, but there were still a few remaining, the Korea Times reported.

Having a caring Mayor like Park Won-soon gives us all hope, that good will eventually prevail over evil.  With a background in human rights, he is such a wonderful man that he has also been speaking about animal rights for decades, although back then people condemned him for it, because they said human rights were more important.

Our wonderful Korean activist friends CCSOGAN have been campaigning in the city for the last few years, with demonstrations at markets, petition signing at their information stall and engaging the public with awareness leaflets.  They even have an awareness advert on taxis with our logo and theirs, that our kind supporters helped pay for.  All of this hard work and activism leads to this great piece of news today. And shows us why we must keep on going.

If you can continue to help the work of activists such as CCSOGAN and others in Asia whom we help with their campaigns, please donate a small amount which helps them with their work.

Chinese Workers in Egypt – Torture and Eat Stray Dogs for Dinner

We received some upsetting news from our animal loving friends in Egypt. They report that Chinese migrant workers who work in Egyptian cement factories are capturing stray dogs, torturing them and eating them.

We need your help to sign and share out petition to the Egyptian Authorities, where we ask them to punish these workers for torture of animals and to make dog eating illegal. As well, we ask them to speak to the Chinese Government about the behaviour of these workers.

Please sign and share our petition to the Egyptian Authorities

Please join us on Facebook, for further actions on how you can help fight the dog meat trade!

Our small charity relies on donations to help us with our global lobbying campaigns as well as helping shelters to look after hundreds of rescued dogs and cats, if anyone is able to help, our simple form makes it easy to send a single amount of your choosing

Hanoi Becomes Dog Meat Free

Wonderful news has emerged from Hanoi in Vietnam. They have declared they are going to be a dog meat free city and work towards this end over the next three years.

This is a huge step forward in Vietnam and for the Vietnamese friends and activists we have assisted over the years.

Sadly though, our wonderful friend Wayne Capriotti who did so much to help animals in Vietnam has died and never got to hear the good news that he played a part in.

A Canadian born activist and pet lover who started Vietnam’s first and only pet magazine ‘Me Thu Chung’, he also became a consultant to the pet industry.  He also worked with our CEO Julia to put in place the Unreported World Documentary about the dog meat trade in Vietnam.

When Wayne found out our charity were special consultants to the UN, he wanted to be involved in this and was going to be a special envoy for us, to attend the UN Meetings. We are sad he never got to attend, but we are still proud and honoured to have known and worked with him.

NoToDogMet also have a twitter campaign where we contact Vietnamese Officials and UNDP staff in Vietnam, asking for their help which everyone on this page can be involved in. Twitter is effective because it allows direct contact with pressing issues.

We will keep pushing until the whole of Vietnam is dog meat and cat meat free.

We also continue to work with a Vietnam Newspaper and we will continue to spread the word through our friends there.
