Latest update on Yulin from DuoDuo

Latest update on Yulin from DuoDuo

More activists are now coming into Yulin from throughout the country. A Buddhist monk organized an event in front of the dog meat stalls to offer prayers to the slaughtered dogs so that they can rest in peace (photo 1). There have been more confrontations between dog meat merchants and the demonstrators (photos 2 – 3).
Activists are discovering more illegal slaughterhouses which is generating more media coverage. (photos 4-5)
More movie stars and singers are speaking out to condemn the YuLin Dog Meat Festival. A benefit concert for “Stop the YuLin Dog Meat Festival ” is being organized. (photos 6-7)

The dog meat vendors at the market are complaining about the drop in their business and about the frequent inspections by local FDA officials.
At this time, we think what might be happening on 6/21, which is the main day of the festival, is that some local people will buy the dog meat and have a private party at their homes to avoid the demonstrators. Fewer out-of-town visitors will travel to YuLin because of the publicity that we have generated.
More plain clothes police officers are around in Yulin in case there is trouble.

As of today, the YuLin government has not yet issued an official “ban” on the dog meat festival.

With or without an “official ban”, we will still have our Chinese team members looking closely at all activities even after 6/21 because we believe that the dog meat industry will go underground.

I will keep you posted on the latest developments

THANK YOU very much for your support and encouraging comments.

Breaking News from Hand in Hand with Asias Animal Activists – Dogs Rescued from Yulin!

Breaking News from Hand in Hand with Asias Animal Activists - Dogs Rescued from Yulin!

Chinese activists have rescued approx 200 dogs from Yulin. The dogs have now arrived in Shangrao, Jiangxi, 1680km away from Yulin. Local vets are there to help with medical treatment. Some of the dogs were pregnant and gave birth to puppies on the way to Shangrao. Activists have posted on Weibo asking for donations of dog food to feed these hungry mouths. Among the dogs that were destined for Yulin, and people’s plates, were Samoyeds, Tibetan Mastiffs and countless Pekinese. Help came too late though for 1 Golden Retriever. This shows that there are stolen pets that are also being killed for meat.
Well done to everyone involved in this rescue!

Do you have a press or media news station near you? Go stand outside and say #NoToFoodTortureCulture. The practice of deliberately making a sentient being suffer so we can eat it has to end. Beating and blowtorching an animal in public is not healthy, it’s not farming, it’s not right! Please support our charity
World Protection for Dogs and Cats in the Meat Trade and help us continue our work.

Our team in China will build up a bigger case next week. Let us help them by building the pressure! Please send a letter (sample letter below) or email to the Chinese Ambassador in your country and to the YuLin Food Standards office: (FDA office in YuLin, China) ;  (US Embassy in DC, US)

Dear Ambassador/YuLin Food Standards office:

I am adding my voice to thousands of other people
throughout the world in demanding that the Guangxi YuLin
government puts an end to the “Dog Meat Festival” that is
held on June 21.

I have great respect for the Chinese people and Chinese
civilization, but I am horrified to learn that the brutal
Yulin “Dog Meat Festival” still exists in a modern civilized society.
The Yulin “Dog Meat Festival” is internationally perceived as a
disgrace to China. I am adamantly stating my strong opposition to
this gruesome practice. I also urge that your office works with
China’s Department of Agriculture in passing an animal
protection law in China that bans the dog and cat meat trade.

Jakarta Animal Aid Network Embark on tour to say “Dogs Are Not Food”

NoToDogMeat CEO J de Cadenet is proud to support the Jakarta Animal Aid Network, as they set off on their “Dogs Are Not Food Campaign Tour”.
Dedicated members of the Jakarta Animal Aid Network set off on their bicycles on the 1st May, from Jakarta to Jogya – all wearing teeshirts, bearing the message “Dogs Are Not Food”.
The team state “Dogs are social creatures and are companion animals. Dogs are not registered as “life stock for consumption” and therefor slaughter houses for dogs do not follow government approved SOP’s concenrning the slaughter process, hygiene standards, SOP of transporting.” You can read more about their work on their facebook page
Ms de Cadenet, CEO of World Protection of Dogs and Cats in the Meat Trade, couldn’t agree more and states:
“Millions of dogs, and cats as well, find themselves caught up in the illegal meat trade, where there is absolutely no protection. The UN does not recognise dogs or cats as farmed animals, in the way it does cows, pigs, sheep and chickens. The travesty is, that some people in South East Asia, still hold the belief, that if a dog is tortured, then the consumer will gain health benefits. Tortured dog flesh is also believed to act as a viagra, and sadly some young South Korean and Chinese men still follow their ancestors, by torturing their food. Sadly, some cats and dogs are also cooked alive using 1,000 year old recipes. We fully support the awareness tour and take our hats off to the young Indonesian men who are saying dogs are not food”.
On May 18th, No To Dog Meat will holding its 2nd worldwide awareness day for dogs and cats in the meat trade.
The London team will hold an event 12pm – 5pm. If you would like to be involved, please contact
